I was born and raised on the Cape
Flats in a small housing estate called Parkwood which is where I currently live with my family. Always inclined toward a more
creative sense of being, I channeled my interests into music and drama.
Fortunately I attended a school
which had a philosophy based on encouraging individuality and creativity which allowed me to develop an assertive artistic
identity and independence. By the time I graduated I had a clear idea of my direction as an independent artist and activist.

It was in the mid 90’s that I started listening to the message of hip hop more intensely and put ear
to the street to find out what was happening in terms of the live performance circuit within the hip hop movement; lyricism
came naturally as a culmination which later lead to the birth of various stage personas, namely Eavesdrop, Mnemonic Jane &
Jade Fox.
Highlights:
·
In 2004 I was invited by a crew of lyricists to join them at the Grahamstown
National Arts Festival to participate in a live hip hop theatre showcase impromptu.
· In
2005 I became involved with the Artscape Resource Centre as an artist and co-facilitated a seminar on the independent hip
hop movement in Cape Town with the aim of connecting artists from all areas of the province and to provide a platform for
expression (Hip Hop Connected). A direct spin-off in succession to the seminar resulted in the debut of the theater project
“Hip Hop Connected”. I was involved as an artist as well as organizer for the production until 2006.
· The trip to Seattle in the U.S for the Red bull Music Academy in November of 2005 has thus far been the ultimate highlight.
I was selected as one of two South African participants to attend a two week music workshop covering a myriad of genres, styles,
and professions from all over the globe.
·
I’ve contributed to the 2007 Hip Hop Connected production as a script
developer; and in 2008 I introduced a community upliftment project called R.A.P.P based around using the various disciplines
of the elements of hip hop to bring about mobility and positivity to people from impoverished backgrounds.
· In February 2008 I worked with two
organizations-Faculties of Hip Hop and Conscious Flowz- on an HIV/AIDS awareness school programme touring various schools
from the Cape Flats as a performer.
I’m currently working in the studio recording Eavesdrop and on conceptualizing the next phase of R.A.P.P’s
(Resurrection of African People Project) contribution to the community.
Hip Hop is Visual Audibility and
my Community needs activity and upliftment. So that is my stimulation: reasoning rhyme as modes of activism!
